How Does ChargePilot Calculate the CO₂ Savings of EVs?

Modified on Wed, 8 Jan at 10:21 AM

To calculate the emissions of a combustion engine fleet, we estimate the driving distance based on the total energy consumption of the depot and the energy consumption of the electric vehicles.

Calculation Basis

CO₂ Savings = Emissions of the Combustion Engine Fleet – Emissions of the Electric Fleet

Example values used in the calculation:

    •    Mercedes V-Class Vito (combustion engine): 330 g CO₂/km = 0.33 kg CO₂/km

    •    Electricity mix CO₂ emissions: 489 g/kWh = 0.49 kg CO₂/kWh

    •    Mercedes V-Class e-Vito (electric): 0.27 kWh/km

By comparing the CO₂ emissions of traditional combustion vehicles with those of EVs based on their energy consumption, ChargePilot provides an estimate of the environmental savings achieved by using electric vehicles.
